Vaccinations are an incredibly important part of pet ownership and vital to ensure the health and longevity of your pet. By following a strict vaccine programme to sustain your pet's immune system, your pet is better protected from a range of diseases that can often be fatal. Vaccine protocols are created based on our primary objective of ensuring the best care for your pet and our aim is to use the minimum amount of vaccine components while simultaneously maintaining the utmost protection for your pets.
In the constantly evolving practice of veterinary medicine, we are always widening our knowledge through new studies and information available to us, using this knowledge to constantly improve how we treat our patients. With this in mind and in accordance with the WSAVA (World Small Animal Veterinary Association) guidelines, we have made some alterations to our vaccine protocol in order to create an improved vaccination programme dedicated to better protect your pets which is as follows:

Prescription Diets
By the end of May, Hill's will be releasing two new Prescription Diets that will make life easier for many of you, and make life better for your pets. The first is a diet for cats known as Hill's Metabolic + Urinary and it combines two prescription diets together to create a food that will help manage their body weight and improve urinary tract health simultaneously. This is a breakthrough in prescription diets as there is a clear link between obesity and feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD), with an overweight cat being far more at risk of suffering from urinary issues. Through the use of this diet, both issues can be combated at once with proven results.
The second diet is targeted at overweight dogs suffering with arthritic issues. Hill's Metabolic + Mobility is specially formulated to both reduce body weight through improving the metabolism and provide support to joints by aiding in cartilage repair to slow down degradation. Excess weight puts huge strain on joints so by helping decrease that pressure as well as support mobility, many arthritic dogs will have a new lease on life with a return of energy and easier movements.
For more information on the topics in this month's newsletter, please ask any of our nurses who will be more than happy to assist you.
All the best, the team at Whangaparaoa Vet Centre.
