Did you know that overweight animals live on average two years less than those that maintain a good body condition?
Obesity is one of the most prominent diseases seen in vet clinics and increases the risk of other illnesses such as arthritis/joint problems, high blood pressure, heart/respiratory disease, diabetes, cancer, and kidney disease.
The good news is there are plenty of ways to help your pet lose weight and manage their body condition. With specialised food/diet modification, limiting treats, and increasing exercise, weight loss is possible and will really improve your pet’s quality of life. It is amazing the difference that is made with weight loss, they can be reverted back to their younger selves and will be happier with much more energy!
If you are concerned about your pet’s weight, now is the best time to take action. Even by simply bringing them into the clinic for a weight check, you can talk to a nurse about what the ideal weight for your pet is and how to achieve that goal. To help you further, both Hill’s and Royal Canin have current promotions running for a selection of their weight loss diets to help further encourage weight management in your pet.
Hill’s Perfect Weight is a diet with breakthrough nutrition formulated to help your pet achieve a healthy weight and improve their quality of life. By supporting weight loss, a healthy immune system, and helping to maintain lean muscle, it means a long, happy life for your pet. By taking up the 10 week Perfect Weight challenge, you can be in to win one of ten weekly prizes of Perfect Weight products worth $75 plus a grand prize worth $1000! In order to be in the draw, you must share a picture of your pet’s weight loss journey on the Hill’s Nutrition New Zealand Facebook page. For further motivation, there is a 10 Week Turnaround Calendar available on the Hill’s website to help you track your pet’s progress over the 10 weeks.
Royal Canin Satiety Weight Management is a diet specially designed for weight loss in both cats and dogs to help reduce hunger. Satiety enables your pet to receive a 32% larger portion than your average high-fibre weight loss diet. This is achieved through a combination of high protein and a special blend of fibres. If you are interested in putting your pet onto this diet, speak to one of the nurses about a loyalty card that gives discounted prices to help you and your pet on their weight loss journey.
All the best,
