January Newsletter 2015

It's a brand new year and we hope that you've all had a wonderful and safe holiday, whether abroad or right here on the Coast soaking up the sun. The summer days feel as through they're just getting hotter which works well for us as we are lucky to be surrounded by plenty of beaches to enjoy.

What's new?

Last year we had to say goodbye to two of our wonderful nurses, Joanna and Annika. You will also be seeing less of our lovely nurse Lauren, who started at the clinic as a cattery girl when she was just 14 before training and working as a vet nurse. She has reduced her working hours down to two Saturdays a month as she is returning to university to study captive wildlife. We wish Lauren, Jo, and Annika all the best in their future endeavours!

We would like to take the chance to warmly welcome our newest staff member, Gentle. Although she is a New Zealander, she has only just recently moved back from the UK where she studied for her Vet Nursing degree, qualifying in 2009. She will officially start on Tuesday 13th of January and we are very excited to have her onboard.

Other news from the clinic:

We now accept both Farmers Finance cards and Q cards, which can be used like a credit card for payment.

There is still a chance to win a Nespresso Coffee machine, with 5 machines up for grabs nationwide. To be in the draw, simply buy any Hill's Science Diet or Hill's Vet Essentials food and fill out the form with your details. Competition closes January 30th.

We have a new flea and tick treatment for dogs on the market called Bravecto. It comes in a chewable treat form and will protect your dog against fleas and four types of ticks for 12 weeks.

Pet Weight Management:

With the holiday season behind us, we're all feeling the effects of Christmas dinners and for many pets, they've also benefitted from the extra food around the house and may be sporting rounder tummies. Although we're guilty of finding overweight pets cute and cuddly, the extra weight can be detrimental to their health. Just like in humans, obesity can lead to a range of health issues, including arthritis and joint problems, high blood pressure, heart and respiratory disease, diabetes, cancer, kidney disease, and a decreased life expectancy. If you are worried about your pet or would like more information about pet weight management, feel free to talk to the nurses at reception or even bring your pet in for a weight check next time you come in. It is amazing the difference that is made with weight loss, they can be resorted back to their younger selves and will be happier and healthier with much more energy!

We hope that both you and your pets stay safe over the summer and enjoy the sunshine!

All the best,

The team at Whangaparaoa Vet Centre.
